Profile of Dr.Habeebunnisa Begum

Dr.Habeebunnisa Begum was a Professor of Urdu at Department of Post Graduation and Research studies in Mysore University. She was appointed as HoD of the Department of Urdu,Persian & Arabic in 1960.
She retired in 1973. She Expired in March 1986 at the age of 73 in Mysore.
Her life was full of challenges right from the beginning till her end. She had lost her mother at an early age of 4 and was taken care by 2 elder brothers and an elder sister. Brothers were  influenced by the  "Sir Syed Ahmed Khan's movement" for education. They played a prominent role in educating themselves as well as their 2 younger sisters when the English system of education was not widely accepted in the Muslim community. After her marriage there was continued support from her magnanimous loving husband Mohammed Valiulla .*

She completed her High School, and joined University, while she fulfilled her duties as a house wife and a mother. 
Due to the encouragement of her husband Mohammed Valiualla, her abilities blossomed in form of much needed, useful research, in literary works. (introducing eminent unknown writers of Mysore State).
She authored 6 admirable books enlightening and analyzing the main ideas in Philosophy of South Asia. In some of her books she has introduced many local Urdu Poets and writers of immense importance.
In 1935, Dr Habeebunnisa Begum Valiulla, was the first Muslim lady in former "Mysore State" to complete her M.A.  From Mysore University she did her M.A. in Persian, and then she completed her M.A in Urdu  from Osmania University. She did her Doctorate from Delhi University during 1954 to 1957.

Mohammed Valiulla was a popular advocate  practicing in Mysore city, since 1930s. In late 1940s he was elected to legislative council of Mysore state. Later on he was elected as M.P. in upper house of the parliament, Rajya Sabha. (Twice). He was a sitting M.P. when he expired on December 16th, 1960, at 6PM. due to sudden fatal heart attack, far away from home.

  2. Dr.Habeebunnisa worked as lecturer in Urdu and Persian in Under graduate Goverment Mahranis College from 1936 to 1960 for 24 years before joining as professor in Post Graduate and Research Dept of Urdu Persian & Arabic in Mysore University.
